Criteria for evaluating the PhD dissertation

The opponents’ assessments of the PhD thesis will reflect on the following:

  • originality of research question,
  • significance of project within a national and international context,
  • internal coherence, line of argumentation, consistency of methodology,
  • familiarity with relevant secondary literature, ability to elaborate on referred material: appropriate acknowledgment and critical continuation of previous seminal research,
  • conceptual clarity, definitions, theoretical knowledge,
  • criteria of selection of primary textual corpus analysed,
  • research findings, results, conclusions, prospects for follow-up research,
  • format, apparatus, length,
  • language, style.
