English Applied Linguistics Programs

MA program

The MA specialization track (szakirány) in English Applied Linguistics is one of the three specializations offered in the Institute’s MA program in English Studies.

It is aimed offering students a course of study with a solid theoretical base and practical orientation towards real life language issues. The specialization track offers a wide range of courses in sociolinguistics, sociopragmatics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, bilingualism, language contact, second language acquisition and language development.


PhD Program

Using theoretical linguistics as its foundation, the program combines synchronic, empirically based English linguistic research and Hungarian-English comparative linguistic research. Within the field of applied linguistics the program emphasizes the study of the process of foreign language learning, second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, language contact, discourse analysis, and language planning (with special attention given to the issues of language contact, the planning of language learning, and teaching).
