Google+ and Groups arrives to IEAS Apps

We are happy to announce that Google’s social networking site, Google+, is now available for all IEAS Apps users. It means that you can now join the network with your IEAS credentials, create a profile page, connect with fellow students and faculty, form circles to target shares and messages, or participate in live video chats and conferences with the help of Hangouts. To read more on the features and how to get started, consult the list of features and best practices for students and faculty. We are also rolling out the IEAS Apps Groups feature for all our users: now you can set up mailing lists for courses or events, start discussions on various topics, keep up with information pertaining to your interest.

Faculty-student mentoring program to begin for first-year students

In the week of November 21st, the IEAS will begin a “mentoring program” for first-year nappali students. In this program, first-year students will meet with a faculty member at various times throughout the rest of the first year.

The mentoring program will give you a chance to meet with a faculty member in a small group of students where you can talk about the BA program and find out where you can get information about what you need to do this year and in the coming years in the IEAS. Moreover, meeting with your mentor will give you the chance to talk about your progress through the first year of the BA program, your interests and goals, and give you the opportunity to consider how best to approach your studies in the Institute.

You have been assigned to a faculty member and will meet with that person in groups of five or six students for around an hour. We are planning three meetings throughout this year. The list of students and mentors is on the first-year notice board. The first meetings will happen between November 21st and December 2nd. Your mentor will contact you by e-mail to announce the time and place of the meeting.

At the first meeting you will receive the updated “First Things First” booklet, which is a guide to your studies in the Institute. Please bring 300 forints to the first meeting to cover the cost of printing your copy.

We’re looking forward to meeting with you!

Don Peckham, Thomas Williams and Fenyvesi Anna of the Communication Task Force
